Trying to improve my life
Sometime ago I was looking for a hobby. I wanted to find a fun activity to fill my spare time. I stumbled upon the Soap Queen channel on YouTube and immediately my interest was piqued. I think I spent the better part of a Saturday watching soap making videos. I had found my hobby! Melt & Pour, Cold Process, Hot Process, funnel swirls, colorants, and scents…all so enticing. What interested me the most was the technical aspect of soaping; the delicate balance between lye and oil. Too much lye and you get a caustic bar. Too little and the bar is a mushy mess. So I made up my mind and decided to buy a CP kit. Since then I’ve researched and bought several handmade bars (noting texture, color and scents). I’ve made several batches and have been testing them out. Right now I’m experimenting with natural colorants and scents.
Another reason that I am venturing into soap making is my desire to use products that have little to no skin irritating ingredients in them. I, like many people, suffer from a couple of skin conditions. I still have acne and once in a while I will have a reaction to a product in the form of hives. Creating my own soaps allows me to control what ingredients go into the bars and the quality of those ingredients.
Most of the post on this blog will be about my soaping projects, but from time-to-time I will do product reviews and posts on other DIY projects that I am working on. I will also chronicle my journey into the “natural” world, as I look for household and personal care products with less harmful chemicals to use.
Thank you for taking the time to read this post and I hope you enjoy my blog…
